Balnhdhurr - A Lasting Impression has arrived at the University Gallery. The elegant works in this exhibition are all from the Yirrkala Print Space at the Buku-Larrnggay Mulka Art Centre, which is located in the remote Aboriginal community of Yirrkala in Northeast Arnhem Land, Northern Territory.
Balnhdhurr refers to marks made on the ground, which are left as a sign for people to follow. An impression is scratched into the ground directing the future viewer to follow the right path. Similarly, printmaking provides a medium for passing on knowledge to younger generations, keep culture, history and identity alive and strong. We will be hosting printmaking workshops during the course of Balnhdhurr so keep an eye on our website and social sites for details, or call the Gallery to check for updates: 02 4921 5255.
