As part of our next exhibition SHADE: Artists of the desert, we will be presenting paintings for sale from Yuendumu in the Northern Territory. Come along to preview the artworks from 4:30pm on Wednesday 6 July, before the official opening from 5:30pm.
A range of colourful works on canvas will be available for purchase, in collaboration with Warlukurlangu: the Artists of Yuendumu. Warlukurlangu Artists Aboriginal Corporation is 100% owned by its artists from the remote desert communities of Yuendumu and Nyirripi in Central Australia. The art centre is a place of intergenerational sharing and support, with senior and young or emerging artists working alongside each other to maintain cultural stories, create meaningful spaces for learning, and generate income for the community. Warlukurlangu means ‘belonging to fire’ in Warlpiri and is named for a fire dreaming site west of Yuendumu. It is one of many ancestral narratives within the desert landscape illustrated by artists. This vibrant painting is by Murdie Nampijinpa Morris and it depicts 'Malikjarra Jukurrpa' (two dogs Dreaming).
