Auchmuty Banner Project
Placemaking for our students, staff and community The Auchmuty Banner Project celebrates the artwork of six contemporary Indigenous Australian women artists in the University’s Art Collection. Located at the forecourt entrance, the banners offer a welcoming and engaging facade for our students, staff and community. With unique styles the artists explore themes of their Country, capturing the various undulations of knowledge, creation stories, the landscape and its significant sites, in artworks that are culturally and visually powerful. The original artworks have entered the University Collection through past collaborations and exhibitions with remote area Indigenous communities. The Auchmuty Banner Project acknowledges the importance of the Auchmuty Library to Callaghan Campus, celebrates Indigenous culture and women artists, and recognises the importance of our art collection. The University of Newcastle acknowledges the Pambalong Clan of the Awabakal Nation, the traditional custodians of the land on which this campus is situated, and acknowledges and pays respect to the other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nations from which our students, staff and community are drawn. |
